Malachowski Class Light Cruiser

This starship is one of the many Federation ships that comes to the aid of the U.S.S. Shenzhou at the Battle of the Binary Stars in the second episode of Star Trek: Discovery. In Star Trek Online, it is the "starter ship" the player gets when they create a new character in the "Age of Discovery" content.

I had the job of creating the model and the material for this ship. In this case I had the opportunity to work with the actual high-poly model created for the show by Douglas Graves for CBS' in-house FX team. Eventually, Pixomodo would take over the FX for the show, and had to port the model to Maya. It was that model I used for reference as a base for the material bakes. I also had support from Eaglemoss, publishers of Star Trek: The Official Starships Collection, who provided me with high-quality renders of the model and material that I used for reference.
